Farm: Sarah's husband died on 23rd January 1838 and in March the landlord and Lord of the manor, Mr Tharp, of Chippenham, took legal advice about the tenancy of La Hogue Hall Farm. Philip Reynolds died suddenly ... leaving a widow and two sons incapable of managing the farm. Mr Tharp considers his decease puts an end to the agreement beyond Michaelmas 1837. The widow seems anxious to retain the land and farm. (she) talks about Mr. Tharp not being able to turn her out. He thinks it inadvisable to send her a rewgular notice before Lady Day next ... if not she cannot withhold the farm not let to her or her two very unruly ect ??? sons. (Source Cambridgeshire Records Office 572/E1)
Farm: The matter appears to have been settled amicably as in the Tithe Appointments dated 16th April 1839 (Cambridgeshire Records Office P44/27/1) Lewis Kent was in occupation of La Hogue Hall Farm. Lewis Kent's wife Augusta nee Palmer was Sarah's niece. See Who is Related to Who?
