This excellent picture, by William Coles, of a shop in Watford in the 1920s shows the detail that can be seen in some of the good quality photographic post cards. Click on images to zoom in for even more detail |
This picture was kindly provided by Steve Holland and shows his grandfather and his step great grandfather, Reginals Elcome (1882-1970) outside Redinald's shop in Harwood Road, Watford. It seems that Reginald moved to Watford with Phyllis and her sons shortly after her returned from the war. It also seems that that they were only trading in Harwoods Road for a comparatively short time and it may be that he had the problems faced by many harness and saddle makers which was that the business was disappearing because motor vechiles were replacing horses.
