BONE, Rickmansworth, late 19th century onwards September 2001 |
|
You really need to look in some early 20th century Kelly's directories - which I do not have to hand, but there are some possible clues in the 1881 census.
The following family was living at Batchworth (to the south of the River Colne), Rickmansworth:
Bernard BONE |
24 |
M |
Hamstead, Herts |
Head |
Plumber House Decorator |
Rose E. BONE |
24 |
F |
Norwich, Norfolk |
Wife |
|
Percy B. BONE |
2 |
M |
Hampstead, Herts |
Son |
|
Rose J. BONE |
10 m |
F |
Hampstead, Herts |
Daur |
I would guess that the "Hamstead, Herts" birthplace refers to Hemel Hempstead, Herts, rather than to, for example, Wheathampstead, Herts, or Hampstead, Middlesex. This actually fits in well with the many other Bone families who are listed in and around the Hemel Hempstead area.
The following family, living at New Town, Flamstead, may well include your Arthur Bone and you may well consider getting his birth certificate from HALS.
William BONE |
25 |
M |
Caddington, Herts |
Head |
Painter |
Emma BONE |
25 |
F |
Flamstead, Herts |
Wife |
Plait Sewer (W B) |
Edgar BONE |
3 |
M |
Flamstead, Herts |
Son |
|
Arthur W. BONE |
1 |
M |
Flamstead, Herts |
Son |
The fact that William Bone was a painter and Bernard Bone was a plumber and house decorator may indicate a link between the families. Caddington is now in Bedfordshire adjoining Flamstead, and in the 19th century there were some complex changes in both parish and county boundaries in the area. Flamstead is a few miles north east of Hemel Hempstead and you may find the Flamstead page of interest.
