CANON/CANNON, Wallington, 19th century

July 2002

Julie Chapman of Ruislip, Middlesex, writes: Edith Tranter, (b,1821) married into the Canon family. I would like to know of any history of the Canon or Tranter family. They had a family Ellen (b1859) and possibly another a child? Ellen married William Green (b1853). I have another name Edith E Canon (b1873) but not sure where she fits into all this.

From Hals I have a number of "Canons", but can not place them all.

John (b1780-    possibly married Mary (b1790-
Ellen (b1809-
Martha (b 1816 Ardley-
Phebe (b1821-
Owen (b1822-   marrying Martha (1820- )and having childern Martha (b1845- ) and Sarah (b1847-  )
Phebe (b1842-Cottereal, is G/dghter to John ref 1851 census, but whos daughter is she??
Dorcus (b1868/9 Basildon -)is niece to Owen and Martha , ref 1881 census ,again whos child is she?
Elizabeth Canon 1869-1934  }
John Henry Canon 1878-1942 }where do they
Martha Emma Canon 1864-1940} fit in?

You ask far too many questions (see instructions for Ask Chris) for me to do more than give a superficial reply. The 1881 census has several Cannon (note the spelling - I have found no relevant records spelt Canon) households in Walkern - at least one of which is clearly relevant, and the others probably are:

Reviewing this kind of information, including similar data from other censuses, you should have no difficulty in purchasing the relevant birth and marriage certificates - which is the next - and essential stage of making further progress to answer most of your explicit an implied questions.
