Guide to Old Hertfordshire

The Guardian

and The Observer

Newspapers

The Guardian (The Manchester Guardian until 1959) is a national daily paper first published in 1821

The Observer was the first Sunday newspaper to be established - in 1791

While Hertfordshire news was only a very small percentage of their coverage the papers are available online. At the time the service was launched in November 2007 there were digital indexes from 1821-1975 for Guardian and from 1900-1975 for the Observer.

This could prove a useful resource for major Hertfordshire events (and the occasional quirky ones) for the 19th century.
