St Albans Musical Union Concert
From the Herts Advertiser, 1st April 1871
CONCERT
The St Alban's Musical Union gave a most enjoyable concert of high class sacred music under the patronage of the Mayor and Corporation, in the Assembly Room, on Monday evening. The attendance, probably owing to the favourable character of the weather for out-door pursuits, and other reasons which may easily be imagined, but not so briefly described, was not so large as considering the varied and attractive character of the programme, might fairly have been expected, the hall being but moderately filled. The Principal vocalists were Mdlle. Fessica, the Misses Boff and Beaumont, and Messrs. Reynolds, Deayton, and J. C. Morris; while the instruments were thus distributed:- First violin, Mr. Carter; second ditto, Mr. Seymour; violoncello, Mr. J. Tomkiss; flutes, Messrs. J. & W. Westell; double bass, Mr. Young; cornet. Mr. J. Westell; cornet, Mr. T. Westell; contra bass, Mr. W. Westell, and pianoforte, Mr. E. C. Tompkins. Messrs A. Carpenter and J. C. Morris officiated as conductors. ...
