MARRIAGES, BIRTHS, AND DEATHS
From the Registrar-General's quarterly returns, we find that the number of marriages in the St Albans district during the months of July, August and September last, numbered 38; Watford, 37; Hemel Hempstead, 18; Berkhamsted, 17; Hatfield, 14; and Barnet, 30; while the births during the next three months were, in St Albans, 94; Harpenden, 41; Bushey, 47; Watford, 77; Rickmansworth, 58; Abbots Langley, 22; Kings Langley, 29; Hemel Hempstead, 65; Flamstead, 23; Berkhamsted, 55; Hatfield, 55; South Mimms, 33; Barnet, 62; Finchley, 66.
The deaths during the same period in St Albans were 74, or an increase of 10 as compared with the average of the same quarter in the three previous years. These included 12 under one year; 26 above sixty; 9 from scarlet fever; 1 from whooping cough; 2 from fever; 5 inquest cases; and 6 in public institutions.
There were 36 deaths in Harpenden, or one less than the average; 7 under one year; 12 above 60; 2 from small-pox; 2 from measles; 1 from whooping cough; 4 from fever; 1 by violence; and 1 inquest case.
In Bushey the deaths were 21, or two less than average including 5 under 1 year; 4 above sixty; 1 from small-pox, 1 diphtheria; 2 whooping cough; 3 fever; and 1 diarrhoea.
Deaths in Watford 66, or 15 above average, including 13 under one year; 26 above 60; 3 from scarlet fever; 1 whooping cough; 2 fever; 1 diarrhoea; 1 by violence; 2 inquest cases; and 22 in public institutions.
At Rickmansworth the deaths numbered 31, or two above the average; and of these 3 were under one year; 10 above sixty; 6 from scarlet fever, and one inquest case.
The deaths at Abbots Langley were 12, or 4 above the average, and included 4 above 60; 2 from scarlet fever; 1 from fever.
Kings Langley deaths 12, 3 above the average, including 2 under one year; 2 above sixty; 3 from scarlet fever; and 1 from fever.
Hemel Hempstead deaths 43, or two under the average, including 4 under one year; 7 above sixty; 3 from measles; 10 from scarlet fever; 5 from fever; 4 inquest cases; and 2 in public institutions.
Flamstead deaths 21, or nine above the average, including 3 under one year; 2 above sixty; and 12 from scarlet fever.
Hatfield deaths 23, or nine above the average, including 2 under one year; 5 above 60; 1 from measles; 6 from scarlet fever; 1 from diphtheria; 1 by violence; and 2 in public institutions.
South Mimms deaths 26, or 8 above the average, including 2 under one year; 10 over 60; 2 from measles; 1 from fever; 1 from diarrhoea; 4 inquest cases; and 1 in a public institution.
Barnet deaths 32, or three above the average, including 5 under one year; 15 above 60; 1 from small-pox; 3 from scarlet fever; 2 from whooping cough; 1 from fever; 4 by violence; 5 inquest cases; and 6 in public institutions. ...
