These two press cuttings, from the Hertford Mercury of 27th September and  4th October. 1879 relate to the opening of the Bengeo Coffee Tavern.

The long account of the opening, and the conference the following day includes useful information on how these coffee taverns were financed and managed. In addition to providing non-alcoholic drinks they were also reading rooms and provided food.
