Report of a Visit to the Church in 2004
The church was visited in September 2004 and it would seem that most, of not all, gravestones are in position. An end-post from a grave board is the only survivor of this method of marking a grave.
This leaflet consists of 2 folded A4 sheets by John Pollington dated 1978, and an addition update sheet dated 2004. These provide a step by step account of the development of the church from Norman times to recent restorations and improvements. There is also a guide to things to see in looking round the church. |
The Nave looking towards the Chancel
Two tombstones of mid Victorian age.
The one on the left is unreadable because it is made of an artificial "ever-lasting" stone which has a hard weather-proof surface and allows attractive moulding. Unfortunately it disintegrates where the surface has been damaged by inscribing lettering, so most such stones are now unreadable. The one on the right, of more conventional materials has weathered well.
If you know of other books, websites, etc, relating to this place, please tell me.
