Introducing the 2nd London Division (Territorial Force)
The Territorials in London were organised into two Divisions, each with a number of infantry battalions, R.F.A. Batteries and other more specialist units. When it became clear that they would see active service, each unit split into two . The troops who would initially see active service moved to their war stations to prepare them for battle. The rest initially remained in London and were involved in recruitment and training of the next wave.
During the War many units at all levels were renamed and reallocated. For instance the 2nd London Division (Territorial Force) became the 47th Division. The follow lists the units which moved to Hertfordshire in August 1914 as they were known at the time.
