1901 Census

www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk

For general information see
Introduction to Census Returns

This site was originally set up by the Public Records Office (amid significant adverse publicity when it was very late on coming online) and is now run by Genes Reunited. It has a searchable index of the 1901 census and for a fee a transcript of the household and images of the pages can be downloaded.

As the documents that are indexed are identical to those in Ancestry for 1901 and if (like me) you already have a subscription to Ancestry there may appear. to be no advantage in using this web site to access the 1901 census However the indexing is different (see for example census transcription errors) and if you are having problems it is worth looking at both.

Examples of its use are given in the following Tutorials
