Notes see earlier slide In 1837 two things happened. The railway arrived and much of the through road traffic along the turnpike road vanished. This would have been a difficult time for a small posting house such as the Plough - so renting a plot in the railway sidings and diversifying into supplying coal would seem a good idea. |
