It is also a useful source of information on the highest members of society, in that it includes a number of births, marriages, bankruptcies and obituaries relating to Herts. A few examples:

22 February 1791. [Births] At Sandridge Lodge [Marshalswick], near St Albans, the lady of Charles Bourchier, Esq., a son

14 July 1743. [Marriages] Dr. Thomas Butt of Ware, Hertfordshire, to Miss Snashwell, of Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, with £5000.

31 July 1784. At Hertford, Captain Thomas Spence, in the Antigua Trade to Miss Susanna Platt.

October 1767. [Bankruptcies] Thomas Beckington of Cheshunt in Hertfordshire, surgeon and apothecary.

4 February 1788. [Deaths] Keck. At Theobalds, Hertfordshire, after six months confinement of the dropsey in her chest, Mrs Keck, relict of Anthony Keck, Esq., late senior serjeant at law.

18 June 1798. Breton. At his house on Epping Green, Little Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, in his 55th year, Michael Harvey Breton, Esq., eldest son of the late Eliab [sic] Breton, Esq., of Forty Hill, Enfield. He was admitted a fellow-commoner of Trinity college, Cambridge; and married Miss Martin, by whom he has left a son, and daughter married to her firdt cousin, a counsellor.

The following extract describes a brass in Hunsdon Church

 

Beloved of all whilst he had lyfe
Unmoan'd of none when he did die
James Gray, interred of his wife
Near to this Death's signe brass doth lye
Years thirty-five in good renown
Park and housekeeper of this town
Obiit 12 die Decembris, ao d'ni 1591, ęt. 60
