Information on pre-Union work houses in Hertfordshire is hard to find and this is a well-researched and informative text, which discusses how the pre-Union workhouse worked. WHile it has been able to produce lists of inmates these come from inventories of goods (including patient possessions) in the workhouse, and the admission rehister and other records which might identify inmates have not survived.
