The web site of the Harpenden and District Local History Society is well worth a visit and provides a long list of publications, and they have kept some early publications in print. The following have either been produced by them or are available from their web site.

Wheathampstead and Harpenden - a valuable series of history booklets, the earliest produced in 1973, which are still available.

The Story of Harpenden - a good introductory history with a useful list of additional sources

Cottage Life in a Hertfordshire Village - An interesting account of life in Harpenden in the latter half of the 19th century. First published  in 1934, and reprinted by the Society.

Bygone Harpenden - An attractive collection of old photographs published by the society in 1980.
