Two postcards of
Bedmond |
Frank Arthur Markham was born in Shefford, Bedfordshire, in 1881, the son of John and Hannah Markham, John being a Baptist minister who appears to have moved around with two children being born in St Albans in 1877 and 1880. In 1901 Frank was lodging in Wood Green, Middlesex and was described as a wood carver's apprentice. In 1911 he was lodging at 90 Sumatra Road, West Hampstead, and working as a wood carver.
The frames would appear to be wood block engravings, and I suspect he produced a limited number of cards over a short period. All the cards I know about relate to Hertfordshire.
It is interesting that one of his cards was sold by de Fraine, of Tring.
