Henry George Moulden

(1861-1916)

of Hitchin

 

Henry George Moulden lived in Hitchin all his life, and was working as a photographic artist  - possibly for Latchmore or Nichols. He had his own studio by 1886, near The Biggin, moving to the High Street in the early 20th century. The examples of his work, below range from carte de visite to postcards, including some of the First World War.

1912   directory   Henry George Moulden, F.R.C.O., organist to nthe parish church  photographer, 27a, High Street, Hitchin.
1916 (23 Dec)   Herts Mercury   Death of Parish Organist. - The news of the death on Friday last week [Dec15] of Mr. Henry George Moulden, F.R.C.O., cast a gloom over the town, for few men had gained the affection of the townspeople as had the deceased. The late Mr. Moulden died after a short illness of Bright's disease at the age of 55 years. He was organist and choirmaster of St. Mary's Church and a Freemason, and in business life was a photographer and music dealer. Townspeople paid a remarkable tribute at the funeral on Wednesday.
