PLEASE NOTE: When this question was asked the amount of information available online was very restricted and the only census available (on a CD) was the 1881 census. The answer given below should be carefully checked using the additional information now readily available online.

Edited posting, with minor update, to a query on the old forum - February 2001

Elspeth Lusby (elspethl @t ic24.net), of Yorkshire is looking for any other family of Lily Gertrude Tomlin born 1/2/1892, to (Arthur) Joseph & Annie (nee Taylor) at No.1 Chapmans Yard, Hatfield. Lily married James Gogarty in Chelsea, 17/11/1915. Their daughter, Olga Eileen Gogarty was born 5/11/1916, address Ivy Cottage, Stanborough. Fathers occupation, Private East Lancs Regiment & Postman at Stanborough GPO. Any information about this branch of the Tomlins?

The following TOMLIN and TAYLOR families are listed on the 1881 census CD - and are probably the ones you are looking for. However you will need to check the couple's marriage certificate (or possibly the Hatfield parish church marriage register) for the names of the couple's fathers to be sure you have the right ones. In particularly Anne is rather young - so if she is the right Anne TAYLOR (the name is inconveniently common) it is likely to have been a shotgun marriage - and may even have occurred after the birth - so Lily may have been registered Lily TAYLOR.

Elspeth responded that she was looking for any descendants on either side, to try and find out about Lily's family. Lily died in 1934 aged 41.

I don't have ready access to the relevant documents - but note that there was only one Tomlin listed under Hatfield in Kelly's 1949 St Albans Directory.
