 DAVIS/GREEN, St Albans, 1890-1950

August 2001

Mrs E M Elvy (Emaye57 @t aol.com) of Great Baddow, Essex writes that  George Augustus Davis and Lucy Green were my father's parents and they were married at St. Peters St. Albans 13.11.1892. I believe grandfather was born in East London but names in the bmd show only George A Davis and there are more than one. They celebrated their Golden Wedding and I have a recollection of an article in the St Albans Observer of a picture showing their golden wedding and 5 generations. If you could identify this article and (hopefully) if it gave the places of birth of George Augustus Davis and Lucy Green this was would nice. One of my father's brothers was John Davis who had a chemist shop(s) in the area and was a Mayor of Watford in the 1940's or thereabouts.

Your best bet would be to contact the St Albans Observer via their web site and they may be happy to send you a copy, particularly if you couple it with a request for information from anyone who remembers them.. There may also have been coverage in the Hertfordshire Advertiser, 63 Campfield Road, St Albans.

George Augustus Davis and Lucy Green should also be listed on the 1881 census CD - and if you know their approximate years of birth and the names and occupations of their father's (should be on their marriage certificate) you may well be able to locate them - together with information on their parents and siblings.

There is a web page for St Albans

If you can add to the information given above tell me.
