These cards, printed in Saxony, with a distinctive divided back, cannot be earlier than 1903. The picture of the Old Market House was taken in September 1899 (See Posters of 1899) and the Old Green Man was demolished by about 1905.

It is possible that he came to Tring to work in Prospect House School, in Park Road, under Mark Young, and gave up being a schoolmaster when the school was closed down. The references to the High Street and Western Road (see picture of shop) both refer to the current western end of the High Street.
