Check Availability of Registers
A check of the LDS library catalogue on familysearch for Honingham shows that they do not hold microfilms of the parish registers - and this could explain the fact that church baptisms have not been found.
Using GenUKI, the Norfolk Records Office Web site can be found - and this shows that they hold registers for the relevant period. It should therefore be possible to see the registers (or microfilm) by visiting the Records Office.
Result of
Investigation
The information about the births has been submitted by a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints and actually provides no more information than can be deduced from the 1851 census return, including the mis-spelt place name. This type of entry raises a trap where someone looks something up on the IGI and assumes that it confirms their finding, when in fact the information comes from the same source that is being checked! However it clearly indicates that someone has been researching this family, and this will need to be investigated. There is no evidence that they knew the identity of the parents, Francis and Sarah Lewin. See The Limits of the IGI on Familysearch. The information about Mary Lewin in the 1881 census (where the county is recorded incorrectly) is important - she apparently has an illegitimate daughter - and has an investment income. This suggests the family was well-to-do and supportive of its "fallen" members. But did Francis and Sarah Lewin have other children? |
