"Art & Humour Publishing Co Ltd"

Art and Humour Publishing Co was formed in 1915 and initially operated from 27 Chancery Lane. One of its founders was Maurice Spurgin, brother of Fred Spurgin. In 1918 it became a limited company. In 1924 it was reorganised and moved to 69 Southwark Bridge Road, finally closing in about 1926.

Fred Spurgin, who had been producing large numbers of cards for Inter-Art, moved to the company and many if not most of the Art and Humour cards were produced by him, and a number (with his signature) also appear with either the name of another publisher, or with no publisher identification.

The following cards are a random sample of those which have caught my eye, to show the very wide variety in his output. A number of cards were republished with a different "publisher" name - See, for example, the Alphalsa Publishing Co.
